Barry Roscoe was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania. He began drawing at a very early age .Roscoe started painting in high school ; wildlife was a favorite subject matter from the start.
Once in College at Tulane University Roscoe experimented with many techniques in various mediums. Painting in oils became his chosen field. Roscoe paints in a refined ,self taught oil glazing tecnique. The oil is applied in thin transparent layers. There is very little blending done on the palette. All the color comes from 100s of layers overlapping one another . This way of painting leaves the surface of the canvas smooth with no vi sable brushstrokes. It also has a unique 3-D effect that makes one feel as if you could reach right into the painting.Using this technique can take up to 6 months to complete a large painting.
Barry Roscoe now lives and paints in Pebble Beach California on the Monterey Pennisula. His works are shown in both Carmel Ca. and in Monterey at world famous Cannery Row.
